Mark Hamilton is recognized as an innovative instructor in the field of professional portrait and wedding photography, and he is known for his elegant and refined posing, along with use of beautiful lighting. Mark is passionate about his craft and thoroughly enjoys teaching others.
A photographer since childhood, Mark's photography style has been influenced by legendary photographers such as the late Don Blair, along with Canada's own Al Gilbert. He has spent time studying with the late world-renowned photographer - Monte Zucker, and has studied and worked extensively with his mentor and friend - Clay Blackmore. Mark describes his style as "Classic, with a modern flare".
Along the way, Mark spent 20 years working for Kodak - 10 years of which were as a Technical Sales Rep in the Medical Imaging Division. During that time he specialized in optimizing imaging environments for hospital mammography programs, helping Radiologists better detect the incidence of Breast Cancer. He also helped hospitals position themselves for the transition from film to digital imaging, which was a daunting task for many. Mark has also spent time working as a Financial Planner; he has been a full-time photographer since 1999.
In 2005, Mark opened a brand new company called Tim West Backgrounds www.timwestbackgrounds.com - supplying high-quality photographic backgrounds to professional photographers. Each background has been personally designed by Mark, and is manufactured by his talented group of artists and craftsmen. With some of the proceeds from Tim West Backgrounds, Mark is proud to support medical research and those afflicted with HIV/AIDS - both in North America and around the world.
In early 2007, Mark launched his brand new teaching website for professional and aspiring portrait and wedding photographers called Mark Hamilton's PORTRAIT CLINIC - www.portraitclinic.com.

What Others Are Saying About Mark
Clay Blackmore - Rockville Maryland:
-
"Mark has been a personal friend for years and I always knew that he would become a great teacher of the finer points in wedding and portrait photography. We have spent many hours together working on marked techniques that are being imitated nationwide. I always wonder why we work so hard to make other photographers better...training our competitors to get our customers. I think General Norman Schwarzkopf said it best..."If you help a man to the top of the hill, you can't help but get there yourself." Spend time with Mark and you will find yourself at the top!"
the late Monte Zucker - Williams Island Florida:
Shawn Von Ins - Holland Michigan:
-
"Thanks for a wonderful, amazing, fabulous week! Mark, your mastery of your art is inspiring; thank you for passing it down to us"
Rod Cole - Round Rock Texas:
-
"Mark, you are the best teacher of lighting, portraiture, and posing that I have ever had. You have the ability to present difficult concepts and techniques in a very clear manner and your skills and insight as an instructor to assess the individual needs of each student are superb. You have an uncanny ability to simultaneously give your students constructive criticism and encouragement to help them become the best they can be. I, for one, greatly appreciate this as such is not always the case with some of the egotistical instructors I have encountered on my photographic journey."
Doxa Coates - Oakville Ontario:
Mike Provencher - Nashville Tennessee:

"Mark, what a great time that I had at your fall workshop in Oakville. The combination of lecture and hands-on learning was just perfect. Also, the fact that we did multiple setups with studio lighting and gear really helped me to see lighting more clearly. The facility you have with your clients is also something that only comes with experience and a great care for producing the best image possible. Invaluable to me was the demonstrations that you did of off-camera location lighting. This to me was worth the price of the seminar. You have a keen eye for lighting and composition and your images show. Your willingness to share your techniques shows an unselfish love of your craft. Thanks for a great experience."
